Comprehensive services for your MINI Cooper at Broad Stroke

At Broad Stroke all (100%) of our technicians have been trained by BMW through their Service Technician Education Program (STEP). This is post technical school training. Admission is by scholarship only. It requires eight (8) months to complete and a year of work within a dealership. Additionally; the BSA technicians have received formal specialized MINI service and repair training.

All of our employees have extensive dealership work experience. We know the information systems that MINI uses and we have access to technical bulletins, service updates, or other important information that may apply to your vehicle.

Because our technicians do not work across multiple manufacturers, we can afford to have the latest as well as top of the line tools and systems to use on your vehicle. Special tools, the latest computer based diagnostics and tuning systems benefit both the owner and the technician. This sophisticate tools enable the work to be completed accurately and quickly. This not only insures a quality service but it also saves time and that means fewer hours required to service your vehicle … and that means lower cost to you.

Our costs are low and therefore your costs are low. Our overhead cost is low, our sales tax is low, and we don’t have a lot of extra people hanging around “just in case.” Having a business located in the King County major metro area is expensive. We know about reliability

How you take care of your vehicle has a lot to do with how reliable it is. Many people think that simply following the Owners Manual of recommended services should insure that their vehicle never fails them. Fluid changes and maintenance are the life blood of your vehicle; however, the recommended service levels and timing really represent only the minimum that is to be done. When customers come to BSA we do a lot more than just change your oil and filter and send you on your way. Every time we perform routine service we take that opportunity to evaluate the critical elements of the vehicle and alert you to potential problems. We are not simply “up-selling” and we never push our customers to buy parts and services that they don’t need. Remember that a well-maintained vehicle with complete service records can add substantially to its resale value.

MINI has 3 types of major service:

Engine Oil Service

  • Oil and Filter
  • Reset service interval display
  • Interior Cabin Filter
  • Check brake pads
  • Check brake rotors
  • Check tire wear
  • Check tire pressures
  • Check parking brake

INSPECTION I (Major Service)

INSPECTION II (Major Service)

And they should occur in this order,

  1. Oil change
  2. Inspection I
  3. Oil Change
  4. Inspection II
  5. Repeat

Inspection I includes:

  • Engine Oil and Filter Change
  • Check Transmission Fluid for leaks
  • Change CVT (automatic transmission) fluid
  • Check CV joint boots for damage or leaks
  • Visually check fuel tank, fuel lines and connections for leaks
  • Check condition, position and mounting of exhaust system. Adjust if necessary.
  • Check struts and shock absorbers for leaks
  • Check front control arm bushings for damage or wear
  • Check power steering system for leaks. Check fluid level and add if necessary.
  • Check steering rack and tie rods for tightness.
  • Check condition of steering linkage and steering shaft joints.

Check overall thickness of front and rear brake pads.
If replacement is necessary:

  • Examine Brake disc surface
  • Clean brake pad contact points in calipers
  • Grease wheel centering hubs
  • Check thickness of parking brake linings only when replacing rear brake pads
  • Check operation of parking brake and adjust as necessary
  • Check brake system connections and lines for leaks, damage and incorrect positioning
  • Check parking brake actuator. Adjust if necessary.
  • Check all tire pressures (including spare if equipped) and correct if necessary.
  • Check condition of tire tread surface, tread wear pattern. Align if necessary.
  • Inspect entire body according to terms of rust perforation limited warranty. (Must be performed every 2 years)
  • Read out on-board diagnostic (OBDII) fault codes
  • Check engine coolant system / heater hose connections for leaks.
  • Check coolant level and antifreeze protection level. Add if necessary
  • Check windshield washer fluid level and antifreeze protection. Add if necessary.
  • Check air conditioner for operation.
  • Replace ventilation micro filter. (Reduce replacement interval in dusty conditions.)
  • Reset service interval display.
  • Check battery state of charge

Check all lighting operation:

  • headlights, fog lights, parking lights, back-up lights, turn signals,
  • emergency flashers, stop lights, license plate lights, interior lights,
  • glove compartment light, make-up mirror light, flashlight,
  • engine compartment light, trunk light.
  • instrument panel lights
  • warning and indicator lights, check control
  • Check operation of horn, headlight dimmer and flasher switch
  • Check wipers and windshield washer system
  • Check aim of washer jets and adjust if necessary
  • Visually examine all airbag units for torn covers, obvious damage or attachment of decals, decorations, or accessories
  • Check central locking system
  • Check operation and condition of door, engine hood and rear hatch latches
  • Check heater, air-conditioner blower and rear defogger operation
  • Check operation of rear view mirrors

Inspection II includes:

  • All of the tasks from Inspection I.
  • Engine Air filter Element
  • Serpentine Belt – 60,000 miles for Cooper S

Additional Services

  • Brake Fluid – Every 2 years (dealer recommended)
  • Coolant – Every 4 years
  • Oxygen Sensor – Replace at 100,000 miles
  • Spark Plugs – Replace at 100,000 miles
